Micro-Needling / Dermapen

Throughout our lifetime, our skin can become damaged, losing its luster due to environmental factors, acne & the ageing process. Medical Microneedling is a non-invasive method of stimulating the skin to produce collagen by causing micro-injuries to the epidermis, resulting in smoother skin, a reduction of fine lines & an improvement in the appearance of scars.

Skin will look healthier & brighter. Medical Microneedling is also recognised as Collagen Induction Therapy.

At The Skin Nurse Clinic, we utilise the Dermapen as our preferred device for Medical Microneedling, as it allows us to use disposable needle tips.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Microneedling Painful?

Before treatment begins a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.

What can I expect from the Microneedling procedure?

The skin is cleaned & numbing cream is then applied to lessen discomfort. For better results, we use a collagen-stimulating product like Vitamin-C serum, Hyaluronic Acid or skin lightener for pigmentation during the procedure.

A small handheld pen-like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 little needles is then employed to pierce the skin.

Our needling pen is multi-speed & meanwhile, flexible needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees & enhance the absorption of products. After the procedure, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are utilised to hydrate, heal & protect the skin.

How Much Down Time is Expected?

Immediately after the treatment, your skin will become red & flushed, it may feel tight & sensitive while touching. This will reduce over a few hours. Up to 5 days after treatment, your skin may appear as it if you have had a procedure. You might be asked to limit your activities during this time.

How Long to See Results from Microneedling?

After 6-8 weeks, a visible result will be seen. However, we recommend patients receive 4-6 treatments for a maximum effect.

How many treatments will I need?

Some patients merely require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to take a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For people with high-level photo-ageing, deep wrinkles, acne scars, or stretch marks, it is suggested to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.

What is Post Treatment Care?

Don’t expose your skin to the sun or utilise sunscreen. Your skin functions as a barrier preventing toxins into the body. Medical Microneedling temporarily micro damages this barrier. Sunscreen can contain toxins that should not pass into the epidermis.

As explained above, post-treatment the skin barrier is not intact, do not use skin product with active ingredients Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retinol & other similar agents as it may irritate your skin.

Do not apply makeup for 24-48 hours as it may bother your skin. It is essential to drink adequate amounts of water before & after your treatment to assist in the healing process.
