Dry rough skin

Another name for dry skin is Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis Pilaris is common disorder of keratinisation of the hair follicles. It affects the outer surfaces of the upper arms and thighs usually in adolescents, giving a roughened (goose flesh), uneven appearance to the skin. Keratosis Pilaris tends to worsen in winter and improve in summer.

What does Keratosis Pilaris look like?

There are discrete small horny grey/red papules visible around the hair orifice giving an appearance of goose flesh.

What can be done?

It does improve with age so can be left alone to improve with time. Otherwise a series of glycolic acid peels can be applied in the clinic. This softens the skin and improves the appearance a lot but does not completely eliminate it.  Frequent use of a glycolic acid cream will also maintain the effect and improve the appearance of skin in general. This can be purchased at the clinic.
